Veteran singer Vani Jairam passes away

Vani Jairam (77), a well-known playback singer, died in Chennai. She collapsed and died at her Chennai home. Many songs have been sung in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, and Hindi. She has three times won the National Film Award for Best Female Singer. This year, the country honoured the singer with the Padma Bhushan. She was born in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, in 1945. Kalaivani was the original name. She has performed songs in 19 languages.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid rich tributes to iconic singer Vani Jayaram, who passed away.

K.S Chithra, playback singer expressed her shock and disbelief on the sudden passing away of Vani Jairam.
