Victim of Refugee Centre Explosion Identified as 30-Year-Old Lithuanian; Garda Investigates Pipe Bomb Detonation
Dublin: The individual tragically killed in the explosion at the refugee center on Little Britain Street in Dublin has been identified as a 30-year-old man from Lithuania. Authorities from An Garda Síochána believe that his death resulted from the detonation of a pipe bomb underneath his bed. The improvised explosive device (IED) responsible for the blast has been confirmed as a pipe bomb, and investigations are underway to determine the circumstances and motives behind the incident.
Gardaí are actively examining all aspects related to the explosion, with further details expected to emerge following the completion of the post-mortem examination of the deceased. The explosion forced the evacuation of more than 50 residents from De Paul Hostel, where the victim resided. The hostel room sustained significant damage in the incident.
DePaul CEO David Carroll expressed uncertainty regarding the cause of the explosion and refrained from disclosing specifics about the deceased. He emphasised the priority of facilitating the return of residents to the building promptly.
The Incident Management Center, established at the central office in Dublin city center, is coordinating efforts to provide essential support to those affected. Ensuring access to medicine and food for all residents is a key concern, particularly as their personal belongings and resources are currently within the impacted building. Assistance is being mobilised to address the immediate needs of those affected by the incident.
