Dublin: Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Xpeng, renowned for its plans to unveil a flying car, is set to launch in the Irish market next year. Motor Distributors Limited (MDL), a major importer of Mercedes-Benz and other commercial vehicles in Ireland, will introduce Xpeng’s vehicles locally. Initial reports indicate that MDL will first bring the Xpeng G6 SUV, a vehicle comparable in size to the Tesla Model Y, featuring lithium-ion phosphate and lithium-ion battery options. Depending on the model, the G6 offers a range between 435km and 570km.
The G6 boasts an advanced 800-volt charging system, inspired by Porsche’s technology, capable of ultra-fast 200-280 kW DC charging, which is expected to make it an attractive and more affordable competitor to Tesla’s Model Y. MDL Chief Paddy Finnegan noted that Xpeng’s expansion into Europe could bring cost-effective pricing to the Irish market.
Brian Gu, Vice Chairman and President of Xpeng, emphasised that the collaboration with MDL represents a significant milestone in Xpeng’s global growth strategy. He also confirmed that construction of a new factory dedicated to the flying car project is already underway, with 3,000 pre-orders received.
