Young man died after being stabbed in the neck during a row in Tallaght

TALLAGHT: A young man died from severe blood loss after being stabbed during a street row in Tallaght yesterday evening.

The 25-year-old is believed to have been stabbed in the neck many times following a dispute with another youth near his house on Mac Uilliam Road in Tallaght about 7:15pm.

Another man, in his forties, was also injured and taken to Tallaght University Hospital. His injuries are said to be not life-threatening and he is currently being treated.

Although no arrests have been made, gardai are investigating the incident by following a definite line of enquiry. Gardai believe the suspect and victim knew each other and that the stabbing was linked to a previous incident in the locality.

Locals who witnessed the fight described it as shocking.

One woman said: “They were fighting in the street and one of them got stabbed near his neck. An older man intervened and we saw him get cut in the eye. It was horrible. Everyone here knows the young man. May God rest his soul.”

Following the horrific event, a large number of public order units from the city’s south side arrived on the scene. Detectives performed CPR on the victim at the scene, but he was rushed to TUH when it became clear that his condition was critical.

Gardai afterwards confirmed the young man had died. The postmortem will take place today.

Gardai have appealed anyone who witnessed the incident or was in the area between 6.30pm and 7.15pm, including any passing taxis with dash cam footage, to contact Tallaght garda station on 01 666 6000, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666111, or any garda station.
