Irish IT Firm Version 1 to Open a 500-Job Tech Hub in Birmingham, Expanding Reach in the West Midlands

Irish IT services company Version 1 is set to establish a technology hub in the heart of Birmingham, creating 500 new jobs. This strategic move is aimed at facilitating greater access to the company’s expanding client base in England’s West Midlands.

Version 1 has seen a surge in demand for its services, spanning the public and private sectors, with a particular focus on digital, data, cloud solutions, next-generation managed services, and specialised AI collaborations. The 500 positions that will be filled encompass various roles, including multi-disciplinary software engineers, product design and delivery specialists, and service management roles ranging from entry-level to managerial positions.

Successful candidates will have the flexibility to work remotely while being centred around the new Birmingham hub, scheduled to open next year. Recruitment is expected to commence in 2024.

Tom O’Connor, CEO of Version 1, expressed his satisfaction with the decision to expand their presence in Birmingham, citing the substantial growth in their work with West Midlands organizations. He emphasised the importance of the region’s impressive technology talent and the support provided by the West Midlands Growth Company, which played a pivotal role in facilitating the expansion.

Version 1’s recognition as the 2023 Microsoft Global Partner of the Year for Modernising Applications underscores their commitment to innovation. Their work with Birmingham-based National Highways to enhance the safety and efficiency of England’s motorways has been instrumental in their success.

The company’s roster of clients in the Birmingham area includes HMRC, Wesleyan, NatWest, Arup, and Cafcass. Version 1 has also cultivated partnerships with local universities and further education institutions, ensuring a strong talent pipeline for future growth.

Private equity firm Partners Group took control of Version 1 last year. The company, operating across four continents, employs approximately 3,200 individuals and reported impressive financial figures with a €21.9 million profit and revenues of €254.7 million last year.
