Permission granted for 1,300 new homes in Dublin Ashtown and Shankill in Dún Laoghaire
DUBLIN: The Dublin City Council area and the Dún Laoghaire County Council area are expected to have more than 1,300 homes available to those in need by next year.
The government has given planning approval for an apartment complex of 725 units in Ashtown, seven kilometers from Dublin city center. The strategic housing development project was approved by the An Bord Pleanála by overriding the decision of the Dublin City Council.
The 14 storeys high 725 units apartment complex will rise here. It is estimated that the government has given permission for the multi – storey building, despite the City Council’s decision, in view of the national significance of the site, which is located near the Ashtown railway station.
The application from Ruirside Development went beyond Dublin City Council to the Planning Board.
The council denied planning permission, citing a lack of residential facilities, the height and density of the complex. The project was approved by the An Bord Pleanála following an order on height and density guidelines introduced by the government in 2018.
The project consists of six apartment blocks with two being 14 storeys, two 12 storeys and two blocks up to six and seven storeys. The vast majority of units will be one and two-bedroom apartments. The complex has only 16 three-bedroom apartments.
Council gave away land for 597 homes in the Dún Laoghaire Shankill
The Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown County Council has approved land for a project to build 597 homes, including social houses and affordable houses in Shankill, South Dublin.
The council approved the transfer of land for the construction of houses to the Land Development Agency (LDA). With this, the government will soon start the tender process for housing contracts.
As part of the project, it is proposed to construct 200 community houses and about 400 affordable houses in Shankill. Construction of the houses will be completed next year.
The project is being implemented on a nine-hectare site in Shanganagh, Shankill, South Dublin. It’s only a 10 minute walk from the proposed DART Station in Woodbrook.
Meanwhile, the LDA said on Twitter that it welcomes the decision to hand over the land. It is currently the largest social and affordable housing project in Ireland, the agency said.
Last July, the council and the LDA said they had made significant progress on the details and design of the project.
As part of the project, 51 semi-detached houses will be constructed. This will include 21 houses with two rooms and 30 houses with three rooms.
In addition, 546 apartments will be constructed as part of the project. In total, 200 social houses and 91 affordable houses will be available for sale. 306 houses will be rented at a moderate rate.
Meanwhile, an LDA spokesperson said that although the price and rental rates of houses have not been decided yet, they will provide affordable housing to the people.
