Poetry Day Ireland 2025: Celebrating ‘May Day’ Through Poetry Across the Island
Poetry Ireland has announced that Poetry Day Ireland 2025 will take place on Thursday, 1 May, with the inspiring theme ‘May Day’. This year’s theme draws from ancient traditions like Bealtaine, symbolising renewal and abundance, while also honouring International Workers’ Day, highlighting unity and collective strength.
Now in its 11th year, this all-island celebration invites individuals, schools, community groups, and arts organisations to get involved by hosting readings, performances, or workshops.
Poetry Ireland also welcomes applications for the Bright Ideas bursary, offering up to €500 for creative and innovative poetry projects.
Director Liz Kelly encourages everyone to “welcome poetry into their day,” while Poet-in-Residence Anne Tannam looks forward to the island-wide poetic celebration.
