World’s Most Powerful Passports 2026: Top Rankings

The 2026 Henley Passport Index, which measures global mobility based on visa-free or visa-on-arrival access, has revealed this year’s most powerful passports. The rankings reflect diplomatic strength, economic influence and international partnerships that enable smoother travel and reduced visa requirements.

Rank 1 – Singapore

Singapore retains its top position for a third year, offering visa-free entry to 192 global destinations—supported by strong diplomacy and political stability.

Japan and South Korea share second place, with citizens able to enter 188 countries without prior visas. Their rankings reflect long-standing economic ties and robust foreign policy.

Five European nations (Denmark, Luxembourg, Spain, Sweden & Switzerland) share third place, benefitting from Schengen membership and mature international agreements.

Nine European nations (Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands & Norway) occupy fourth place with access to 185 locations, supported by shared EU mobility frameworks.

Four European countries (Hungary, Portugal, Slovakia, and Slovenia) and the United Arab Emirates hold fifth place. The UAE continues its dramatic climb, gaining 149 visa-free destinations since 2006.

Sixth place is shared by countries Croatia, Czechia, Estonia, Malta, New Zealand & Poland whose strong international relationships support broad global entry.

Australia, Latvia, United Kingdom & Liechtenstein. These nations maintain high mobility despite shifting visa policies and geopolitical changes.

Three countries (Canada, Iceland & Lithuania) take eighth position, supported by strong access to North America, Europe and beyond.

Malaysia ranks ninth, holding one of Asia’s most advantageous passports.

The US drops to tenth, but still provides extensive global access across 179 destinations.

India’s Position – 80th

India ranks 80th, tied with Algeria and Niger, allowing entry to 55 countries without a prior visa—highlighting the persistent global mobility gap between regions.
