14 to 10; quarantine period of confirmed Covid cases reduced to 10 days

The self-isolation period for Covid persons in Ireland have been cut short to 10 days. Later it was 14 days.

HSE and the Health Protection Surveillance Center (HPSC) have issued new clinical guidelines to GPs in this regard.

As part of the new arrangement, the last five days of this period are critical. The patients will be required to have no fever during the last five days of self-isolation.

Reducing the isolation of patients to 10 days will only apply to positive cases in the community. The new guidelines do not apply to those arriving in Ireland from non-green listed countries.

At the same time, people who have been in close contact with the Covid patient should be monitored for 14 days.

The new guidelines are based on a study conducted by the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) on Covid prevention at the international level.

The new change comes as the government is set to announce an interim plan to adjust and live with Covid.
