Burning at the refugee centre; Four people in the hospital… two people arrested

Kerry: Five men were hospitalised following a stabbing at a Killarney hotel that was being used as a direct provision centre. The incident occurred on Sunday at 8.30 p.m. The injured were all taken to Tralee University Hospital. It appears that the injuries are not serious. Garda officials arrived in ambulances and took the injured to the hospital.

Two people in their thirties were arrested in connection with the incident. They are being interrogated at the Killarney Garda Station. Investigations are ongoing. Gardaí said they could not provide any further information.

In October, authorities were criticised for moving Ukrainian women and children who arrived in Killarney in March from a hotel to Mayo. The move was to bring refugee men here.

Alternative accommodations for Ukrainian women and children were also put in place in Killarney following the protests. Half of the 400 residents of the Hotel Killarney are women who are Direct Provision applicants.
