Companies offering more employment opportunities to immigrants

Dublin: Companies offering more job opportunities, including immigrants. The companies’ move is part of Business in the Community Ireland’s (BITCI) Elevate initiative, which aims to address inequalities in Irish society. Ireland’s 45 CEOs provide a wide range of career opportunities. Bank of Ireland, AIB, Diageo, Air Gas Networks Ireland, Roadstone, and Sky Ireland are among the companies that have signed up.

Global pandemics and movements such as Black Lives Matter, according to BITCI CEO Tomás Sercovich , have highlighted societal inequality. Companies can help solve this problem. And they need to do more. Elevate’s goal is to build a workforce that reflects society, Sercovich said.

BITCI stated that it will publish progress reports on an annual basis, with the first one due by the middle of next year. The reality is that some groups in our society face significant employment barriers. “We are delighted to be working with other groups to change that,” said Ken Scully, Head of Trading & Commercial Operations-Ireland at Marks & Spencer and co-chair of The Leaders on Sustainability.

Recent research by BITCI has found that unemployment among people with disabilities, including immigrants, is four and a half times higher than the general population in Ireland.

According to the study, it was six times more common in blacks and thirteen times more common in travellers. Deloitte conducted the research on behalf of BITCI in order to highlight societal inequalities and the barriers that cause them.
