COVID-19 crisis and ‘packed’ schedule; 2021 Asia Cup postponed to 2023

The Asia Cup, which was scheduled to take place in Sri Lanka in June of this year, has been postponed to 2023, the Asian Cricket Council has confirmed. The date will be announced later.

The tournament was postponed due to busy schedules for the four major Asian teams, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, which are part of the tournament. In addition, the second wave of COVID-19 is another reason to postpone.

The tournament was originally scheduled to be held in Pakistan in 2020, but was shifted to Sri Lanka following the spread of COVID-19. However, Sri Lanka Cricket CEO Ashley de Silva said it would be difficult to hold the tournament in June as the number of COVID-19 cases in Sri Lanka has increased.

Another Asia Cup is scheduled for 2022, with Pakistan hosting the tournament. India won the 2018 Asia Cup in the UAE under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma.
