Dublin Nurse Convicted of Raping Colleague After Giving Her a Lift

Dublin: In a recent ruling at Dublin’s District Court, Leonard Lliuta, a 36-year-old nurse, was found guilty of sexually assaulting a colleague, marking a troubling conclusion to a case that unfolded over five years ago. Described as being consumed by an ‘obsession with lust,’ Lliuta’s actions during a car journey, where he molested his coworker, led to his remand.

The victim, who regularly accepted rides from Liiuta due to shared shifts, recounted feeling compelled to sever ties due to his persistent advances. On the day of the incident, lliuta steered the conversation towards explicit topics, including his infidelity and purported addiction to sex. Despite her repeated objections, he continued his advances, eventually reaching her private areas. Only when halted by a traffic signal did she manage to escape his grasp.

Lliuta’s defence vehemently denied the allegations, asserting a purely professional relationship between him and the victim. They claimed disbelief at her accusations, labelling them as fabrications aimed at tarnishing Lliuta’s reputation. However, the court, led by Judge John Hughes, found the victim’s testimony credible, ultimately dismissing lliuta’s plea of innocence.

As a result of the ruling, the victim expressed an inability to continue working alongside Lliuta, highlighting the profound impact of his actions. The court’s decision underscores the seriousness with which such cases are treated, emphasising the importance of accountability in cases of sexual misconduct within professional settings.
