Four killed in an accident while travelling to celebrate Leaving Cert result party

Clonmel: Four young people’s trip to the Leaving Cert results party comes to a tragic end.

Four students have died in an accident in Clonmel, County Tipperary, while on their way to attend the Leaving Cert celebrations.

At around 7.30 p.m. last night, a man under the age of 20 and three teenage girls were killed in a crash on Mountain Road to Clonmel Township. All four died on the spot.

The rescue operation was directed by Gardaí, and traffic in the area was diverted.

The deceased’s bodies were taken to South Tipperary General Hospital.

A forensic examination will be conducted today at the scene of the accident.

According to reports, the three girls, two of whom are from the same family, received their Leaving Certificate results yesterday and were unable to make it to the earlier-booked celebration party.

Gardai have appealed to anyone who has camera footage, including dash-cam footage, of the person driving through the Mountain Road area between 7 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. to make such footage available to gardai.

Clonmel Mayor Councillor Richie Molloy said in a condolence message that the tragedy has left the town stunned. This is really shocking news. As a parent, I can only imagine what these young people’s parents are going through,’ he added.

The presence of a private drone at the scene of the accident has been confirmed by Garda. Gardai have requested that no such material be shared on social media in order to respect the deceased and their family and friends.
