Here are two ways to get your Digital Covid Cert onto your smartphone

DUBLIN: Digital COVID Certificates are currently being issued in Ireland, with the majority of those over the age of 40 already receiving them. Many people are skeptical how to use it properly digitally from your smartphone. Certificates are provided as a piece of paper (by post) or as a PDF attachment to an email. Carrying DCC in paper form while travelling will be difficult for some people, so having DCC on our phone is convenient. There are two ways to do this.

Using Covid Tracker App

DCC can be embedded in a smartphone using the Covid Tracker app. The application has been updated with a new button called ‘Register EU Digital Covid Certificate’.

When you press this button, you will be able to scan the ‘QR code’ on your certificate. Then it will display your name, date of birth, vaccination status, certificate ID, and other details. However, you will not be able to do all of this on the same phone. So the solution is to either print out the certificate or scan it from the email you received on another connected device.

Through a third party application or online service

DCC can also be setup over the phone via a third-party application or online service. Certificate details can also be side-loaded onto your phone’s ‘wallet’, where you keep other passes and payment cards.

Android phone users can download a free application called GreenPass. It works in the same way as the Covid Tracker app, allowing you to scan the QR barcode and then store your details in your phone’s wallet.

iPhone users have to use their phone’s Safari browser to access the free web application Covid19passbook.netlify.app. This will function similarly to the Greenpass app for Android phones. You can also take a screenshot of the QR code from the email on your phone.

Verification tool

The EU Digital Covid Certificate is designed to be used as a verification tool for travelling across European countries. Passengers will be asked for regular identification, such as a passport, to verify their identity on the DCC.

At the same time, getting access to indoor dining is relatively simple. All you have to do is show the Cert to the owner of the restaurant or pub.
