Hit and run on M51; Garda taken to hospital with serious injuries

A hit and run case was reported in Co Louth, yesterday around 1.45pm. A Garda was injured.

The Dundalk Garda Roads Policing unit were conducting a routine mobile speed checks in the route. It was then they stopped a car on the northbound carriageway of the M1 near Junction 20 (Jonesborough).

As per the Gardai’s statement, the car had initially stopped, but then it rushed away from the scene. A garda was found injured by the car.

The injured one was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. His injuries were said to be serious, but none of them are life threatening.

The road was closed for a short time to complete the proceedings and was later reopened.

The Gardai was not able to locate the car or the driver. They have appealed to witnesses to come forward and are also seeking for camera footages from along the M1 route at the time of the incident.
