India approves two Covid vaccines; Vaccination may begin on Wednesday

New Delhi: The Drug Controller General has approved the use of two Covid vaccines in the country.

‘Covshield’ and ‘Covaccine’, Developed jointly by Oxford University and AstraZeneca and locally developed in India by Pune Serum Institute, respectively have been granted emergency use.

The vaccine will be distributed in a controlled manner. The DGCI meeting took the final decision after considering the report submitted by the expert committee. With this, two Covid vaccines are ready for vaccination in India.

It is reported that the first phase of vaccine distribution will start by Wednesday.

Vaccination should will be carried out with strict caution in certain groups of people in clinical trials. There are indications that the Covshield vaccine will only be approved for widespread use.

The Controller General of Drugs reported that Covshield had an effectiveness of 70.42 percent. However, caution should be exercised in vaccination.

When the vaccination starts, the first 30 million people across the country will be vaccinated. The Covid Front is made up of one crore health workers, two crore police, defense personnel and local health and sanitation workers.

The Union Health Minister, Harsh Vardhan said that the vaccine will be given to them free of cost.

The procedures for making the vaccine available to the remaining 27 crore people on the priority list by July are in progress. People over the age of 50 and those under the age of 50 with a serious illness are on the priority list.
