Irish Red Cross Explores Innovative Housing Solutions for Refugees in Belgium
The Irish Red Cross, in collaboration with the Department of Integration, has investigated housing solutions for refugees in Belgium. The delegation studied the use of containers and former offices to accommodate refugees, drawing inspiration from Belgium’s response to hosting 76,000 refugees from Ukraine. The fact-finding mission explored models such as the Ariane office block and a container village. The Irish Red Cross suggests that similar approaches could be applied in Ireland for both asylum seekers and homeless individuals, emphasising the need for cooperation between local and central government for successful implementation.
