Russia unleashes a missile barrage, damaging the power grid, Ukraine and Moldova are left in the dark

Kyiv: Power and internet connections in Ukraine and Moldova were disrupted after Russia escalated its attack. There are concerns that it may take a long time to fix the systems damaged by the attack, which will cause a crisis in the winter. The Ukrainian Department of Energy has confirmed that the majority of people have lost power. Power outages have terrified thousands of people, and the water supply has been severely impacted.

Russia has been on the offensive with missiles and exploding drones for weeks. Russia’s move is aimed at destroying the entire energy system.

On Wednesday, Russia launched approximately 70 cruise missiles. 51 of them exploded. Five drones were shot down, according to the Ukrainian Air Force. The Internet system was also disrupted as a result of the heavy attack. In Kyiv, three people were killed when a two-story building collapsed. There were nine people injured. The authorities informed that it was done. Besides this, regional governor Oleksiy Kuleba stated that the attack in the surrounding area killed four people and injured 34 others.

Energoatom, Ukraine’s state-owned nuclear operator, said it had lost power grid connections to three fully operational nuclear plants. Most thermal and hydropower plants were temporarily disrupted by the attack, the Energy Ministry said.

According to UN Deputy Spokesman Farhan Haq, power and water are out in all parts of the country, including Lviv in the west and Zaporizhzhia, Odesa, Vinnytsia, and Dnipro in the south.

In the meantime, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy instructed the Ukrainian ambassador to the United Nations to request an urgent meeting of the Security Council. According to Zelenskyy, nearly half of the country’s energy infrastructure has been destroyed.

Infrastructure Minister Andrei Spinu said that Moldova is also in a power crisis. The reason for this is that the Soviet energy systems are linked to Ukraine. Meanwhile, the Foreign Minister said that Moldova summoned the Russian ambassador and asked for an explanation.
