Situation getting worse in Northern Ireland

The Department of Health has reported ten recent deaths and 342 new cases in relation to Covid-19 virus attack in the Northern Ireland.

With these numbers, the total number of recorded Covid deaths became 933 and the overall confirmed cases has risen to 49,784.

As per the recent reports, four deaths were confirmed from Belfast, two in Causeway Coast and Glens, and the further list goes on like: Antrim and Newtownabbey (1), Ards and North Down (1), Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon (1), and Newry, Mourne and Down (1).

At present there are 425 confirmed inpatients and 40 patients in intensive care units.

3,054 people were tested positive for Covid-19 over the past seven days. In Belfast, within the last 24 hours, 77 people have tested positive, 36 in Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon and 33 in Lisburn and Castlereagh.

The major reason for this quick rise in Covid cases is considered to be the shoppers and Christmas traders who made rush across Northern Ireland before another two-week lockdown begins on Friday.

Many places have recorded its highest footfall since the coronavirus pandemic began and there were queues which was beginning from the early morning in Belfast city centre.

Meanwhile it has emerged that Sinn Fein emailed thousands of party members and supporters the full details of the late Bobby Storey’s funeral arrangements, telling them the wake for the senior republican would be open to the public.

The funeral of the former senior IRA figure on June 30 last now is the subject of a Police Service of Northern Ireland investigation into alleged breaches of Covid-19 regulations.

An email seen by the Sunday Independent sent to thousands of party members and supporters on June 25 evening did not mention the Covid-19 pandemic guidelines, and public health regulations such as the maximum number of people is 30 and it didn’t mention anything about the need of wearing face mask or about social distancing.
