Dublin: A new IrishJobs survey reveals that 68% of job applications in Ireland are rejected due to a lack of relevant skills, contributing to slower and more resource-intensive hiring. The study, based on responses from 553 recruiters and 738 jobseekers, highlights growing dissatisfaction among employers, with 78% expressing concern over the quality of applications received.
Only 25% of applicants progress to the interview stage, often hindered by manual screening and poor CV presentation. A notable 21% of candidates are rejected for poorly formatted applications, prompting 35% of jobseekers to now use AI tools to enhance their documents.
The survey also found a significant disconnect between job adverts and candidate expectations. Nearly half of jobseekers are discouraged by missing salary ranges or unclear job titles, and 20% would reject a job offer if the role differed from its description.
Sam Dooley, country director at The Stepstone Group Ireland, stressed the importance of clearer job descriptions and evolving recruitment practices to improve hiring outcomes in a tight labour market.
