Spain leapfrogs US over the number of Covid cases

The US was on the top of the global list of the maximum number of Covid cases, but now Spain has overtaken that position by reaching 7000 in the number of daily confirmed cases.

In the view of the growing crisis, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez called on the army to counter the Covid expansion.

More than 7,000 people in the country were diagnosed with the disease yesterday. Benidorm and Majorca, two popular tourist destinations, have become major hotspots.

Within two weeks, the infection rate in the country had risen sharply, with 81,000 newly confirmed cases.

According to data from tracker Over World in Data conducted by researchers at Oxford University, Spain has overtaken the United States.

As per the observation released on August 25, 2020, the seven-day average from the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control shows that Spain has 147.75 per million covid cases per day.

As of August 1, it was 49.20 million cases, this latest figure shows the extent of the spread of the disease in the last one month. Compared to the US, the number of confirmed cases per day on August 26 was 128.01 per million.

The U.S. has the highest infection rate in the world (5,965,815). In early August, an average of 194 cases per million people were reported in the US.

Strict controls adopted in some states have helped prevent the spread of the disease in the country.

The U.S. has a population of 328.2 million whereas in Spain it is 46.94 million.

Conditions getting bad in India also

In India, the number of Covid cases is increasing day by day, raising concerns. Yesterday alone, 75,760 people in the country were diagnosed with Covid disease. With this the total number of infected persons increased to 33,10,234.

India is the third most affected country in the world. But India is surpassing the United States and Brazil in the number of Covid cases per day.

The death toll in the country is rising as more than a thousand people are reported to die of the disease every day. The total death toll in the country has crossed sixty thousand (60,472).
