The EU’s population is declining, new figures reveal……

According to Eurostat’s most recent demographic figures, the European Union’s population fell by more than half a million people compared to 2020.

The analysis indicated that COVID-19 casualties had a negative impact on the EU population, halting yearly growth until 2020.

Despite the fact that 17 EU member countries had an absolute rise in population, seven countries saw a fall, including significant decreases in Italy, Poland, Greece, and Croatia.

The yearly demographic statistics released by Europe’s official statisticians attempt to examine how the region’s population is developing across a number of important measures.

The EU population is declining.
On January 1, 2022, the EU’s population was 446.7 million, a small decline from the same day in 2021.

Despite a 4% increase in population during 2001, the population declined for the second year in a row.

In the European Union, there were 585,000 fewer people in January 2022 than in January 2020.

The EU population continued to expand annually until January 2020, when it began to decline owing to the casualties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The EU is ageing fast.
According to the most recent data, more than one-fifth of EU citizens are now 65 or older.

With improved healthcare, the proportion of people aged 80 and up will nearly double in 2022 compared to 2002.

Alternatively, there was a reduction in the population under the age of 20, which contributed to the overall ageing numbers.

Women live longer in the EU.
According to the most recent life expectancy figures, women in the EU outlive men in the EU.

Despite the fact that global life expectancy declined by 1.2 years between 2019 and 2021, data reveal that women live 5.7 years longer than men.

Life expectancy at birth for women was 82.9 in 2021, compared to 77.2 for men. The EU member states all followed the same pattern.
