Wilko Johnson, a Game of Thrones actor and Dr. Feelgood musician, died at the age of 75 from pancreatic cancer. On Monday (November 21), a statement uploaded to his social media accounts confirmed that the performer who helped define the “British punk movement” had died at home.
Johnson was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2013 and was given a 10-month life expectancy after refusing chemotherapy. Despite this, he beat the odds and was proclaimed cancer-free two years later after surgeons removed a 3-kg tumour in an 11-hour surgery.
Johnson, who lives in his home in Essex, was saddened when his wife Irene died of cancer in 2004.
Johnson was well-known for his distinct guitar approach, which influenced many early punk bands in the 1970s. The guitarist was a member of “Ian Drury” and the “Blockheads” before founding his band, the “Wilko Johnson Band.” He has dabbled in acting, debuting in 2011 as Ser Ilyn Payne in “Game of Thrones.”
