Mayor Hazel Chu marries Patrick Costello TD at the Mansion House

DUBLIN: Dublin Lord Mayor Hazel Chu married her long-term partner Patrick Costello TD at the Mansion House yesterday.

The Green Party couple had to postpone their special day last August due to COVID restrictions.  However, on Sunday, their “religious blessing” ceremony took place in a “casual and relaxed” manner, with the celebration party being postponed until next year.

The reception was attended by the couple’s family and close friends in the cordoned off seating area at the front of the mansion house. The Mayor expressed her heartfelt thanks to all who attended and blessed the ceremony.

Ms. Chu, who was dressed in an off-the-shoulder cream dress and bright pink heels, expressed hope that she and her husband would be able to go on a honeymoon within the next two or three years.

Alex, their three-year-old daughter, sat between her parents in a chair and enjoyed the ceremony. Following the ceremony, the newlyweds spent some time outside the Mansion House with friends, putting all other plans aside and relaxing.

“The big reception is being moved out to next year because we always said we didn’t want to use the house for a big wedding so it’s pushed out to next year, this year we’re just having the blessing,” Ms. Chu said.

“We’re taking advantage of the small numbers to keep it chill. It’s different but we’re making the most of what it is. It’s still lovely and it’s still great to have family here,” Costello TD said.
