Young man in Dublin was found guilty of stabbing a homeless man to death

DUBLIN: A young man in Dublin has been found guilty of stabbing a homeless man to death in Dublin Park in June 2018. Adam Muldoon (23), who had cerebral palsy, was stabbed 183 times by Philip Dunbar (20) of Glenshane Drive, Tallaght, Dublin 24.

The young defendant had pleaded not guilty to the June 22 or 23 murder at Butler Park in Jobstown Park, Tallaght.

During a six-week trial in the Central Criminal Court, lawyers argued that Dunbar was intoxicated to make the necessary intent for a murder conviction.

Dunbar, meanwhile, told the Garda that he knew he had carried out the stabbing but had no memory of it. Dunbar said he was addicted to pills and alcohol and had seen and heard voices in his head for months before the attack on Muldoon.

However, the jury, which consisted of five men and five women, rejected his defence. After three hours of deliberations, a unanimous verdict was handed down.

As soon as the verdict was announced, the prisoners took him to the cells. Dunbar will be sentenced to the mandatory term of life imprisonment for murder this Friday.
