Genetically modified corona virus is more likely to be caught in children; Health experts with caution

London: Health experts warn that a new variant of Covid could be easily caught in children and young adults.

Statistics also show that the new variant of Covid may easily overwhelm young people compared to the earlier corona virus. Analysis of this is in progress.

Neil Ferguson, a scientist at the British Government’s New and Emerging Respiratory Virus Threats Advisory Group (NerveTag) has said that the virus’s have changed over time during Britain’s second lockdown.

“There is a hint that it has a higher propensity to infect children that may perhaps explain some of the differences, but we haven’t established any sort of causality on that but we can see that in the data.” Speaking at a Science Media Centre press briefing, Prof Ferguson, of Imperial College London, said.

The new variant of Covid virus was found to spread more rapidly than the normal Covid infection at five to six weeks of age in children under 15 years of age.

Studies on this are in progress. However, he said that this analysis was not fully proven.

At the same time, the Department of Health estimates that it may not be possible to control the spread of Covid in children. Nervtag member and head of the Imperial College’s epidemiology department, Prof. A.S. Wendy Barclay said.

Health experts estimate that Covid’s new variant can spread the virus by 50 to 70 percent more than previous viruses.

At the same time, schools will be closed as part of the new Tier 4 restrictions imposed in the UK for two weeks following the Covid expansion, but this is unlikely to happen where Tier 3 and Tier 2 restrictions are in place. Health experts are concerned that this could lead to an increase in the spread of the disease.

Ferguson said he hoped the Tier 4 restrictions imposed on areas where the spread of the disease would be severe would help reduce the spread of the disease.
