Northern Ireland confirms 1,566 new cases and 14 deaths

In Northern Ireland, where Covid prevalence continues to be high, 1,566 new cases have been confirmed.

Fourteen people died of Covid infection yesterday. This brings the total death toll to 1,305. So far, Covid has been confirmed in 68,762 people in the country.

Meanwhile, a six-week lockdown had begun in the country from Saturday to control Covid cases. All non-essential shops in the country were closed as part of the restrictions. Pubs and restaurants are opened up for takeaway services only.

Meanwhile, the government has directed that all retail stores selling essential items should not be open after 8 pm till next week. At the same time, there are restrictions on the number of people who can reach the store.

In addition, the government bans all indoor and outdoor gatherings between 8pm and 6am. After four weeks, the cabinet will decide whether to lift the restrictions or not.

Health experts point out that the number of patients admitted to hospitals and the death rate are relatively high because people have failed to comply with the regulations. At present, hospitals across the country are reportedly overcrowded.
