Government of Malta offers huge benefits to attract tourists

MALTA: Government of Malta offers huge benefits to attract tourists. The reason for Malta coming forward with such a stimulus package is to revive the tourism industry. The government says this will also help tourists avoid going to other tourist destinations. The country is expected to lift COVID-19 restrictions by June 1.

The Malta Government will pay €200 to each individual who stays on the Mediterranean island for at least three days this summer. Tourism minister Clayton Bartolo said the offer would be available to tourists who book summer vacations directly through local hotels.

Minister Bartolo said tourists who book accommodation at a five-star hotel will receive €100 from Malta’s Tourism Authority. When the hotel offers a discount of 100 euros, the total will increase to €200. Similarly, those who opt for a four star hotel will get a total of €150 and those who book a three star hotel will get €100.

Those who book using hotels in Gozo, a small Maltese island 3 km north of the mainland, will receive a 10% increase in the grant.

The minister explained that the promises were to keep the hotels in Malta competitive. It is expected to benefit about 35,000 visitors.

Data from the World Travel and Tourism Council indicates that more than 27% of Malta’s economy comes from the tourism industry, directly and indirectly. But the sector was hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2019, the country attracted more than 2.7 million foreign visitors. But this figure has fallen by 80% in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this figure dropped by 80% in 2020.

Malta and COVID-19

Malta has the highest vaccination rate in the European Union, 42%. Adults are also vaccinated here.

There has also been a significant reduction in the new COVID-19 cases. The rate of positive cases dropped to 2.6%.

The Malta government has asked the EU to introduce vaccine passports to facilitate travel. Tourism minister said he would hold talks with Britain to promote travel.
