Bank of Ireland to close 103 branches; Services will now be available through post offices

DUBLIN: The Bank of Ireland has announced plans to close 103 branches in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. The decision comes as the bank moves to accelerate its services through digital banking.

Majority of the branches that are closing are self-service branches. They do not offer a counter service. The Bank of Ireland has stated that such branches will be closed from the end of September.

As a result of the closure, the number of bank branches in the Republic of Ireland will be reduced from 169 to 88. In Northern Ireland 15 branches will be closed and 13 retained.

Meanwhile, Bank of Ireland announces new partnership with An Post. This will give Bank of Ireland customers the opportunity to provide banking services through over 900 post offices across Ireland.

Bank customers can avail counter cash, check lodges and cash withdrawals through post offices.

The Bank of Ireland now has a post office within an average of 500 meters of all branches it has decided to close. Therefore, the bank officials said that the closure will not significantly affect the customers.

The Bank of Ireland has announced that there will be no forced recurrence as a result of today’s decision to close branches nationwide.
