COVID-19 vaccine training for nurses will begin next week – INMO

DUBLIN: The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organization (INMO) has announced that training on the COVID-19 vaccine for nurses in Ireland will begin next week.

Phil Ní Sheaghdha, INMO General Secretary, said that the preparation and administration of the vaccine will be led by nurses in the coming weeks, and that steps will be taken to educate nurses about vaccination.

However, the exact training schedule for this has not yet been provided, according to the INMO report.

The INMO made the revelation shortly after European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced details of the launch of immunizations across the European Union on December 27, 28 and 29. The INMO is in regular contact with the HSE in connection with vaccination programs.

The Department of Health has not yet released the date on which Ireland’s rollout will take place.

Meanwhile, the INMO confirmed that there is still no exact timeline on when nurses will actually be vaccinated along with other sections of healthcare workers. Ms Ní Sheaghdha said that nurses need to be protected at this time.
