Covid origin: China denied access to expert group

Geneva: The World Health Organization (WHO) has said that the Chinese government will not allow a team of experts to travel to China to investigate the origin of the corona virus.

WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Gebreyes said China’s last – minute denial of the permit was “very disappointing”.

After months of discussions, a team of ten experts is coming to China this week to study the origin of the virus. Tedros said two of them were currently out in China and the others could not leave at the last minute.

It is understood that the Chinese authorities have not yet made a decision on whether to allow the expert team to enter China immediately. Talked to senior Chinese officials. They were informed that this was the first mission of the World Health Organization and the international community. “I am confident that China will complete the process of granting entry as soon as possible,” Tedros said.

At the same time, Michael Ryan, director of the World Health Organization’s emergency department, said that the problem with visa clearance was the reason for not getting the permit. He said he hoped China would resolve the issue soon. However, China has not yet commented on the matter.

The corona virus was first detected in Wuhan, China by the end of 2019. The virus, which has since spread worldwide, has so far killed more than 1.8 million people. Countries, including the US, have harshly criticized China for spreading the virus.

Earlier, there were reports that China had tried to cover up the spread of the virus and that the Chinese government had suppressed reports of the virus.
