Garda urges public to act responsibly over weekend and warns of fines for violating restrictions

DUBLIN: Gardai have urged public to act responsibly in the coming days, especially on weekends, as the restrictions are remain in place. Gardai have stated that patrols will continue over the weekend at public amenities, parks, and beauty spots across the country.

Gardai have also issued warnings to the public regarding fines for violating COVID-19 restrictions. A total of 20,566 COVID-19 fines have been issued so far. Of these, more than 3,600 fines were imposed on those who attended or organized house parties. The fine for hosting a party is €500, and the fine for attending is €150.

So far, 745 €500 fines for organizing a house party and 2,918 €150 fines for attending a house party have been issued. For non-essential travel, nearly 15000 €100 fines were issued. 378 people were fined €80 for forgetting to wear a face mask.

Spectacular weather is expected this weekend, so Deputy Garda Commissioner Anne Marie McMahon has advised people to strictly adhere to restrictions tomorrow and the day after.

“With good weather forecast this weekend we would ask people to continue to enjoy the outdoors responsibly. Please limit your social contacts. Please do not meet in large groups. Please do not attend parties or gatherings held inside or outside,” said the Deputy Commissioner.

“The vast majority of people are continuing to comply with the public health regulations. This is making a positive difference in tackling the spread of COVID-19,” she added.
