How long do people who received first dose of AstraZeneca vaccine have to wait for their second dose…?

DUBLIN: Thirty thousand vaccination appointments were cancelled after the administration of AstraZeneca vaccine was suspended due to health problems. The government is not currently trying to bridge the gap with other vaccines such as Pfizer and Moderna, as it fears such a move could be confusing.

Some 117,000 people have been given their first dose of AstraZeneca vaccine. They cannot take any vaccine other than AstraZeneca. So the government is waiting for the final verdict of the EMA on this issue.

The dose interval for AstraZeneca vaccines has been extended to 12 weeks. No one in Ireland has yet received two AstraZeneca doses.

The second dose for Astaseneca first-job recipients in Ireland should be given this week but it is not being given. But the first dose should be given to the risk group. They are people with underlying conditions and diseases, such as transplantees and those on kidney dialysis, as well as some cancer sufferers.

The others are the rest of the frontline health staff. The incidence of COVID-19 among them has been reduced by 95%. The government expects the European Medicines Agency (EMA), which is studying reports of AstaZeneca side effects, to make a recommendation on Thursday. The government also hopes to resume the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine by next week. Such side effects have been confirmed in young people in Norway.

For those aged 70 and over, AstraZeneca is being replaced by Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna jabs. He said the Health Products Regulatory Authority in Ireland had received very few reports about embolisms or blood clots.

At the same time, the Department of Higher Health sources revealed that recipients of the first dose of AstraZeneca jab will not be able to switch to an alternative product when it is time for their second dose.

Meanwhile, a new research from Scotland has shown that the AstraZeneca jab is just as effective as the Pfizer and Moderna, which acts differently in suppressing COVID-19.
