John Cremin, the first one to vaccinate at Kerry home

John Cremin, a 95-year-old man from Knocknagree in Co Cork, was the first resident of a nursing home in the south of the country to receive the Covid-19 vaccination.

The 95 year old received the vaccine in roll-out programme. It was organised by HSE Cork Kerry Community Healthcare.

Mr Cremin is a resident of St Columbanus Community Hospital in Killarney for the past seven years. He said he was delighted as a proud Corkman to receive the first vaccine administered in Kerry.

From a total of 100 residents and 200 staff at the HSE residential facility in Killarney, Mr Cremin was the first to receive the vaccine today.

Amongst the staff members, it was Máire Flynn, the facility’s Director of Nursing the first person to receive the jab.

The residents were all ready and very much exited for this process, she said.

“They are all delighted, they feel they can see an end to the hard 2020 that we’ve had. We’ve all had a challenging time, the whole community has, and they are really ready for this…. They see it as the way forward and the only way out of this.  Everybody wants it. There is no feeling of fear or anything. It is welcomed with open arms,” she said.
