Say no to alcohol for two months: Warning for Covid vaccine recipients

MOSCOW: Health experts warn that recipients of Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine should not drink alcohol for two months.

Health observer Anna Popova said people should stop drinking alcohol at least two weeks before taking the first of two doses of the vaccine. It is suggested that this should continue for 42 days.

Anna Popova says alcohol reduces the body’s ability to boost immunity against Covid. They warned people not to drink alcohol if they want to stay healthy and have a strong immune system.

But Alexander Gintzberg, the vaccine developer has a completely different opinion. The Sputnik V Twitter channel on Wednesday published a completely different piece of advice, along with a picture of Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio raising a glass of champagne.

A glass of champagne will not hurt anyone, not even your immune system, Gintzberg said. He said it is good to reduce alcohol consumption when the body is gaining immunity but there is no need to give up completely.

However, he said it was important to avoid alcohol for three days before and after receiving two injections. He said the proposal applies to anyone receiving the vaccine worldwide, and not just to Russia or Sputnik.

Two vaccine doses are given at 21-day intervals.
