Sur-Sargam Musical Society in Ireland to organise Rabindra-Jayanti festival on May 9

DUBLIN: Sur-Sargam Musical Society in Ireland (SSMI), a group that promotes Indian culture and art, is organising an online event on May 9 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore.

The Rabindra Jayanti festival will feature a group of guest artists from Kolkata-US and EU. The star artist of the event will be Radio Queen Sravanti Mazumdar. The Calcutta-based artist is a professional singer, broadcaster, stage, radio, and television performer, as well as a radio and television program producer.

The other performers for the event are Pratyasha Bhuin, Aishani Mishra, Sumita Bose, Soumitra Basu, Richa Sarkar, Saheb Chattophady, and Byasdeb Saha. These artists will perform Rabindra Sangeeth, Shruti Natok and Abritti.

Sur-Sargam Musical Society’s mission is to encourage people to develop and perform authentic/traditional music and dance styles of India. The group’s aim is to provide a platform for traditional music enthusiasts from various regions of India/Ireland to understand, learn, and exchange cultures.

The event will begin at 4 pm (GMT) on May 9 and will be streamed live on Sur-Sargam Ireland’s Facebook page (Surasargam Ireland).

The SSMI has invited everyone to join the free live event, which will primarily focus on the Bengali community in Ireland, and has asked everyone who wants to participate in any of the programs to submit their recordings to [email protected].
