Travellers can fly to and enter Singapore by showing COVID-19 digital travel pass from next month

Travellers who use a mobile travel pass that includes digital certificates for COVID-19 tests and vaccines can fly to and enter Singapore.

Singapore’s aviation regulator has announced that from next month, the country will accept visitors who use a smartphone application containing data from accredited laboratories.

Singapore will be among the first to accept the International Air Transport Association (IATA) mobile travel pass, with the goal of making it easier to resume travel while avoiding complications and delays at airports that require several document checks. The country also wishes to be among the first to host international events.

Singapore Airlines successfully tested the digital pass. More than 20 airlines, including Emirates, Qatar Airways, and Malaysia Airlines, have been reported to be testing the pass. The airlines hopes that more countries will accept mobile travel passes in the coming days.

Willie Walsh, the director general of IATA, stated that “the success of our joint efforts will make IATA’s partnership with the government of Singapore a model for others to follow.”

Currently, travellers from most countries are required to undergo COVID-19 tests within 72 hours of departure in order to fly to Singapore. They must also present the results at airport check-in and on arrival.  However, from next month, this system will experience a shift as travellers will be able to use digital passes.
