Vaccination on the ‘Same Day’: Ursula von der Leyen

European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen has said that the 27 member countries of EU is planning to start Covid-19 vaccination on the same day. She said that this gesture will be a sign of unity.

The Commission chief’s statement came as pressure mounted on the bloc to catch up with the United States and Britain. Both of these states have already started vaccination process with vaccine made in the EU jointly by Pfizer and BioNTech.

At the same time Germany had entered into another lockdown to level the curve. The lockdown came into effect as the number of conformed Covid deaths jumped by 952, the highest daily increase yet.

In order to control the virus spread, Chancellor Angela Merkel and the 16 state governors announced a strict lockdown on Sunday and it will be in effect till January 10.

Jens Spahn, German Health Minister has said the country should start giving coronavirus shots 24 to 72 hours after the vaccine by BioNTech and Pfizer gets EU approval and could begin as soon as Christmas.

The vaccine will be approved by the European authorities next week. Countries like the US and the UK had already begun rolling out vaccine.
