Microsoft released Xbox, a video game console system.
Twenty years ago, a tiny group within Microsoft embarked on a seemingly bold goal: to build a video gaming console from scratch and compete with far more established competitors.
Despite several setbacks, Xbox was created. Over the course of two decades, it became a constant presence in gaming and mainstream culture throughout the world.
Xbox is a video game console system developed by the American company Microsoft. Microsoft’s initial foray into the realm of console electronic gaming, the Xbox, was introduced on November 15, 2001, pitting it directly against Sony’s PlayStation 2 and Nintendo’s GameCube.
But, until today, the complete tale of those low beginnings, stops, and starts has not been revealed from the inside out. “Power On: The Story of Xbox” is a new six-part documentary series that is streaming for free so that anybody can follow that difficult journey, hearing firsthand from individuals who were there when it all began, some of whom are still employed by the company.
