Britain lifted COVID-19 restrictions despite recording over half a million cases daily

LONDON: British Prime Minister Boris Johnson lifts COVID-19 restrictions at a time when the country is seeing more than 50,000 coronavirus cases per day. Masks are not mandatory in public places from Monday. The UK government has allowed all institutions to operate, and carry out all public activities without any restrictions.

At the same time, the opposition parties were strongly opposed to the government’s decision to lift the restrictions completely in the absence of a reduction in COVID-19 cases. Health experts have also warned that government action could further increase the spread of the disease.

The government has also lifted the work-from-home system. Permission has been given to open nightclubs in the city from midnight on Sunday. Venues, including indoor sports stadiums, can accommodate maximum people. Movie theaters are also allowed to open.

According to reports, Britain has decided to ease limitations in the aftermath of the economic crisis caused by the pandemic. At the same time, Boris Johnson said people should be vigilant even if restrictions are lifted.

Britain’s move has sparked widespread global criticism, with many seeing it as a threat to other countries around the world. But the government believes that since the majority of people have received at least the first dose of the vaccine, the disease’s spread will be less severe.

Two-thirds of the country’s adult population have been vaccinated. PM Boris Johnson has urged those who have not yet been vaccinated to do so as soon as possible. The UK currently ranks third in the world in terms of daily number of COVID-19 cases, behind Indonesia and Brazil.
