Covid-19: Three deaths and 84 cases have been reported in Ireland, concerns continue in the capital

Covid-19 has been confirmed in 84 new people in Ireland, and three deaths have been reported. With this, the total death toll in Ireland rose to 1,781 and the number of patients climbed to 30,164, health officials said.

Today, 32 men and 52 women have been diagnosed with the disease. Of these, 66% are under 45 years of age.

About 30% of confirmed cases are related to an outbreak or close contact with a confirmed case and 8 cases have been identified as community transmission.

There is a substantial decrease in the number of Covid cases in the country today relative to yesterday. But there’s not much difference in Dublin, which is causing concern. In the capital, 51 new cases were reported.

County Offaly has registered 6 new cases while 5 cases in Kildare. And the remaining 22 cases are from Cork, Donegal, Galway, Mayo, Meath, Roscommon, Tipperary, Westmeath and Wicklow.

HSE works at finding any sources who might have had to provide patients with information and advice to prevent further spread.

Acting CMO, Dr. Ronan Glynn said the cases in the capital are increasing exponentially among all ages and the main reason for this is social interactions and house parties.

“While the reproduction number for Ireland as a whole is close to 1.0, the reproduction number for Dublin alone is approximately 1.4,” Professor Philip Nolan, Chair of the NPHET Irish Epidemiological Modelling Advisory Group, said.

“We are seeing increasing case numbers in Dublin, growing close to 5% per day. If this were to continue, the number of cases would double every 14 days.”

He added that given the size of Dublin’s population, it is essential to prevent the virus from spreading further.

There have been reports that if the number of Covid cases in the coming days does not decrease, strict restrictions will be announced in the capital and in Limerick.

Earlier discussions were going on regarding the reopening of pubs in different counties.

Although the total number of cases in the country has dropped, it remains to be seen what the government’s decision will be as concerns remain in Dublin.
