CSO figures shows that six people are raped every day in Ireland!

Dublin: According to official reports, 2270 women were raped and sexually assaulted in Ireland last year. At least six women approach the garda daily with such complaints. But the women’s groups argue that the actual figures are too high.

CSO figures indicate that there are even large delays in reporting violence against women. Even cases that took place 10 years ago were reported this year.

In this case, it is doubtful how many cases have gone unreported. However, the report shows that the majority of sexual offenses are not reported in a timely manner; especially child abuse. According to the CSO report, such incidents are kept secret and revealed after reaching adulthood.

CSO states that, 683 cases were reported 10 years after the incident and 83% of such cases are related to childhood. Statistics indicate that, 283 minor boys were abused and 566 female victims were under the age of 18 when they were abused. Among sexual assault cases, 63% are reported one year after the incident.

Crimes against women are 82%. Of these, 32% are victims between the ages of 18 and 29 and 14% are minors.

At the same time, the CSO estimates that 80 percent of all homicides in the country are committed by men. The number of men killed last year were 57 while the number of women were 17. In the case of death that occurred as a result of careless driving also 75% are men.
