Health Department Issues Warning to Passengers from “Abu Dhabi-Dublin Etihad Airways Flight”

Dublin: The Department of Health has issued a special advisory to passengers who were aboard the Etihad Airways flight arriving from Abu Dhabi to Dublin at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 9.

Following the diagnosis of a passenger with measles on that flight, the health department has urged fellow passengers to take precautionary measures. Passengers who traveled on EY45 are advised to urgently contact HSELive at 1800 700 700 or +3583 187244 if calling from outside Ireland. Direct notifications have been sent to individuals seated adjacent to the affected passenger. However, the Department of Health emphasises that all passengers who were on the same flight should exercise vigilance, especially those who are pregnant, immunocompromised, or under 12 months old.

This incident marks the third confirmed case of measles in Ireland, as reported by the Health Service Executive (HSE).

The initial case of measles was reported in early February this year, resulting in the unfortunate demise of a 40-year-old man at a hospital in the Dublin and Midlands Health Region.

A subsequent case was reported to the Health Protection Surveillance Center in the west of the country on March 6.

In response to the uptick in reported cases across the UK and Europe, the HSE has initiated a measles vaccination catch-up program aimed at reaching approximately 300,000 individuals.
