India Gears Up for Paris 2024 Paralympics..

A total of 84 para athletes represent India at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, which will be held from August 28 to September 8. India will compete in 12 disciplines, an increase from the nine at Tokyo 2020.

Notable athletes include javelin thrower Sumit Antil, who holds a world record with a throw of 73.29m, and shooter Avani Lekhara, India’s first female Paralympic gold medallist. High jumper Mariyappan Thangavelu, a two-time Paralympic medallist, will also be a key figure.

Para table tennis player Bhavina Patel and archer Harvinder Singh, who won India’s first Paralympic medals in their sports, will aim for additional podium finishes.

For the first time, India will compete in paracycling, para rowing, and blind judo. Arshad Shaik and Jyoti Gaderiya will participate in paracycling; Kapil Parmar and Kokila will compete in blind judo; and Anita and K. Narayana will represent India in para-rowing.

India has already achieved significant success at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, including Avani Lekhara’s historic double gold and a podium finish in women’s 10m air rifle standing SH1 shooting. The country has also seen impressive performances in archery and track events, securing a total of four medals so far: one gold, one silver, and two bronze.
