Level three restrictions to be imposed on Donegal County

As the Covid-19 cases grows uncontrollably the cabinet decision to declare Donegal County, which is ramping up uncontrollably, as a Level 3 restricted area. Restrictions came into effect for three weeks from midnight on Friday.

The Cabinet immediately took such a decision after considering the latest advice of the National Public Health Commission (NPEET). The covid prevalence rate in Donegal is 122.5 per 100,000 population.

The Acting Chief Medical Officer said the spread of Covid in the county’s Leoford and Stranorlar areas was shocking, Ronan Glyn told a news conference this evening.

In the case of Stranorler, the prevalence rate is 336 per 100,000 population – the highest in the country.

Covid spreads and cases are increasing in Louth, Waterford, Wicklow, Kildare, Cork and Galway. The Department of Health has indicated that all of these counties are likely to move to Level 3 in the coming days.

Today alone, 324 new cases have been reported in Ireland. Health officials also confirmed three deaths related to Covid infection.
