“Skilled Worker Shortage Persists in Ireland Amid Growing Job Opportunities”

Dublin: New research reveals that a third of companies in Ireland continue to struggle in finding staff with the right skills. Despite these challenges, the overall business landscape remains positive, as highlighted by InterTrade Ireland’s latest All-Island Business Monitor. Out of 750 companies surveyed, 56% reported stability, with a third experiencing growth in the past year. However, the scarcity of skilled labour is exerting pressure on businesses, with more than half reporting long-term vacancies. Many of these companies are relying on temporary employees to maintain operations.

The research also indicates that certain sectors, including manufacturing, entertainment, hospitality, and catering, are particularly affected by the labour shortage. Among businesses with more than three employees, 31% are actively implementing new technologies to address staffing issues. Despite ramping up recruitment efforts and expanding their search for skilled workers, many businesses still feel the strain of the ongoing talent shortage.

In the April to June period, a quarter of the surveyed businesses reported an increase in sales, with a third expecting further growth in the next six months. While 70% of businesses remain profitable, rising costs continue to be a significant concern. Regarding Brexit, a third of companies indicated they would remain unaffected, while 46% expressed confidence in their ability to adapt, either fully or mostly, to the post-Brexit adjustments.
