A massive wind energy farm is set to power more than half of Ireland’s home in Co. Wicklow

Dublin: Ireland’s largest offshore wind project, Codling Wind Park, located off the Co Wicklow coast. The project, a joint venture between Fred Olsen Seawind and EDF Renewables, will feature 60 to 75 turbines, down from the initially estimated 100. It is expected to generate 1,300 megawatts (MW) of clean electricity, sufficient to power over one million homes.

Situated 13km to 22km off the coast between Greystones and Wicklow Town, Codling Wind Park will be the largest offshore wind farm in Ireland. The construction phase is anticipated to create over 1,000 jobs, with 75 permanent roles for operations and maintenance once the project is completed. Subject to planning approval, construction could start in 2026 or 2027 and is expected to take two to three years.

Ahead of a third and final round of public consultations, a series of exhibitions and information sessions will be held in Wicklow, Greystones, and Sandymount to provide further details on the project’s design and environmental studies. Codling Wind Park was one of four successful projects in Ireland’s first auction for offshore wind contracts, alongside North Irish Sea Array, Dublin Array, and Sceirde Rocks.
