CSO Reports Record High Average Weekly Earnings in Ireland for Q2 2024

Dublin: New data from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) shows that average weekly earnings in Ireland reached a record high in the second quarter of 2024. Earnings increased from €771.39 in 2019 to €963.17 in Q2 2024, with average hourly earnings now at €29.17. The Information and Communication sector recorded the highest average hourly earnings at €44.38, followed by Education at €42.54, and Financial and Real Estate at €39.76.

The Construction sector experienced the largest annual wage increase, rising by 11.8% to €27.43 per hour. In the public sector, average weekly earnings grew by 4.9% over the year, from €1,105.67 to €1,159.97. This rise reflects the 2.25% pay increase for public servants under the Public Sector Pay Agreement 2024-2026, which was backdated to January 2024.

An Garda Síochána had the highest average weekly earnings and work hours in the public sector, with earnings at €1,782.49 and 43.2 hours per week. Additionally, average hourly labour costs across all sectors increased by 10.1% to €5.22, while total hourly labour costs grew by 6.1%.

The Information and Communication sector also led in terms of average hourly total labour costs at €59.64, whereas the Accommodation and Food Service Activities sector had the lowest at €18.76. The job vacancy rate remained stable at 1.1% in Q2 2024, down from 1.3% in the same period of 2023.
