Minister of Justice Confirms No Delay for the New Family Reunification Policy

Dublin: Justice Minister Helen McEntee has announced that Ireland’s policy document for family reunification will be republished later this year. The current policy, which was last updated in 2016, has seen partial revisions since then, but the lack of a comprehensive policy document has led to several ambiguities.

The new policy document will be based on reports from various committees that have studied the issue. Since 2020, Ireland has permitted foreign workers in various job sectors, including healthcare assistants, home care assistants, horticulture farm workers, and meat product sector. It is anticipated that the updated policy will standardise regulations across these sectors.

The government plans to officially release the updated policy in November or December. Currently, many work permits, especially for healthcare assistants, are subject to stringent family reunification conditions due to low salary structures. Health care employees from countries such as India are hopeful that the new policy will address these challenges by increasing salaries and simplifying family reunification requirements.
